When a
purse has a key hook sewn to either the inside or outside of the purse, the
purse owner will always have a convenient and easy place to attach a key ring.
This will eliminate frantic and annoying digs through the purse because keys
will always be hanging right on the hook when needed. Making a key hook is a
simple little project that will be appreciated every time you don't have to
search for your keys.
Instructions
1. Cut a 3-inch by
4-inch rectangle from the fabric.
2. Place the fabric rectangle so that the wrong side is facing up
and the short sides are on the top and bottom. Fold in each long side edge so
that the raw edges meet in the center of the rectangle. Press these folds.
3. Fold the fabric in half so the point where the raw edges meet
from Step 2 is now a side edge. Press this fold. The raw edges are now
concealed within the fabric and you have a 4-inch by 3/4-inch rectangular
fabric strap.
4. Stitch two lines of stitching from the top edge to the bottom
1/4-inch away from each side edge. This will flatten the fabric strap and give
it additional strength.
5. Place the metal ring onto the fabric strap and slide it down
one inch from the top edge of the strap. Fold over the strap at this one-inch
point. Fold up the raw edge on the bottom edge 1/4-inch. Press these folds.
6. Fold up the bottom edge one inch so that it overlaps the raw edge of the first
fold. Sew across the point where the ends overlap. Stitch several times back
and forth to secure it well.
7. Position the ring so that it extends out from one folded edge of the strap
and stitch a line immediately under this point to secure the ring at one end of
the strap.
8. Stitch the key hook strap to the purse in the desired position. Optimally,
it would be stitched to an inside edge of the purse so that the keys will be
contained within the purse but attached at the same time.
