LUXE CHAINS ARE IN

Chunky chain necklaces are proving to be quite trendy. Seen gracing the necks of all the hottest celebrity ladies, including Jeniffer Lopez, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian these are certainly the go-to statement necklace of choice right now.

One particular favourite is the Celine ID Choker Chain Necklace. Kim K loves it so much she has it in gold and silver and has been seen finishing off her outfits on multiple occasions with the addition of one of these necklaces. Unfortunately, we can't all afford to splash out thousands of dollars on the real deal, so luckily for all you fashionistas on a budget, we've sourced a Celine replica, available now at Toteally Kenya.

Another chain seen repeatedly cropping up on all our favourite celebrity style icons is the Versace 'Lion Head' chain, and again Toteally Kenya have sourced a replica style so you can get the celebrity look for less! This one is sure to give maximum impact to any outfit and is equally capable of looking sophisticated and elegant when styled in a feminine manner as seen on Lilly Ghalichi and Nicki Minaj, as it is punky and edgy, Rihanna Style.

How to Put Hair in a Perfect Ballet Bun

Side Bun

Buns are hot!

Whether you're running errands at the supermarket, rocking out at a concert, or walking the aisle at your own wedding, this classic style keeps things simple and feminine while effortlessly pulling hair off your neck and out of your eyes. Great for keeping cool in hot weather and for polishing off your look, the timeless ballerina just became even easier with the help of... a doughnut!

For those who don't know, a doughnut is one of the recent hair accessories, shaped just like your ordinary doughnut, made of a mesh like material.  It gives your bun volume, shape and a lift while lending the bun a very sleek, formal appearance.

To pull off the look you would need:

  1. Comb hair into a pony tail. The pony will be the center of the bun, so place accordingly. Secure with an elastic, then slip the pony tail through your hair doughnut.
  2. Spread out hair over the doughnut. You can use a comb or a densely bristled brush to smooth hair over, or just your hands. Make sure your coverage is even and there's no mesh showing through.
  3. Secure another hair elastic around the base of the bun.
  4. Begin wrapping the dangling ends of the hair around the base of the bun. If you have thick or long hair, you'll probably want to pin the hair into the base of the bun to make it neater.
  5. Finish off by spraying your hair to lend it some sheen.

HOW TO WEAR BIG NECKLACES

Big necklaces are super trendy right now you’ll find that almost everyone is wearing them. Big necklaces can be made from several different materials and can have various details and adornments. There are so many styles and designs for these popular bib necklaces that you will surely find at least one that will match some of your favorite outfits. Now the question is, how do you wear a big necklace? Well, here are some ideas on that:
  • Wear bold and bright big necklaces against interesting prints
A big necklace that comes in a bold and bright color is sure to stand out when worn against interesting prints such as florals, stripes and tribal prints. This works better if your big necklace is also long enough to drop down somewhere near the chest area to make an awesome contrast with the print.

  • Wear it with a shirt that has a low neckline
Wearing a big necklace with a shirt or a dress that has a low neckline always works if you want to show off your beautiful statement piece. This combination works best with chunky collar necklaces but you can also wear bib necklaces, too.

  • Wear it with a collared top
This is a very versatile way of wearing a big necklace as you can wear this style either during the day or at night. For a daytime look, tuck your big statement necklace under the collar of your shirt. This results in a very chic and casual look. At night when it’s time to loosen up and have some fun, you can wear a big necklace without tucking it in under the collar. This look is more fun and carefree and it also has a sort of a sexy vibe to it, especially when your shirt is unbuttoned until about the chest area or when you’re just wearing a top with a low neckline and a collared jacket on top.

A bubble necklace is the perfect way to accessorize your sheer top.
  • Wear it with a strapless top or dress
Wearing a big necklace with the right length over a strapless dress can create the illusion that you’re wearing a beautiful halter top. This is achieved when your necklace is long enough to touch just the part where your strapless top begins. A shorter necklace that’s also chunky and big will also work with this.

  • Wear it with a turtleneck
One of the best ways to jazz up your outfit that involves a turtleneck top is to wear a nice big necklace over it. Make sure that the color of your necklace makes a great contrast with the color of your turtleneck top to achieve gorgeous results.

Makeup as Seen on Hollywood's Latest It Girl Lupita Nyong'o

Nick Barose, the pro who worked with Lupita Nyong'o at the Toronto Film Festival gave the details behind two of her makeup schemes.

1. Rich Burgundy Lipstick

For the movie's world premiere, "we chose a soft burgundy lip to work with her gorgeous white and gold Prada gown," Nick says. "Burgundy lips can look glamorous and not too punk or too harsh when you keep the color more of a red tone instead of going too brown or black—and make sure it's not too matte because it can look severe." He suggests something with a creamier texture and a hint of sheen, like Votre Vu Moisture Rich Lipstick in Margaux. Pair burgundy lipstick with plummy eyeshadows to keep your look monochromatic and not harsh; here, Lupita's eyes are also tight-lined to add definition.

2. Plum Smoky Eyes and Bronzed Lips

This unexpected color combo gave Lupita a fun look for a film-festival party. "A slight sheen on the eyes and lips glazes over beautifully on dark skin like hers and looks dramatic without being in-your-face," Nick notes. He lined her eyes with black pencil then blended shimmery plum eyeshadow on top and did two coats of black mascara. On her lips, he used a golden-bronze lipstick with a sheen—Votre Vu French Kiss Lipstick. "It adds luminosity to the lips without being glossy," he says. To keep the lips defined, he cleaned up around the edges with a lip brush.

CARE FOR COSTUME JEWELRY

Costume jewelry is often made up of various metal alloys which will not have the same life span as the more expensive variety of jewelry. It is important, therefore, to do what you can to prolong the life of your costume jewelry.

Whenever you're doing housework (indoors or outdoors), remember to remove your jewelry. Harsh chemicals can destroy this jewelry very quickly. When playing sport, remove all jewelry as perspiration will damage jewelry over time. It's also wise to remove jewelry when swimming or bathing. Chlorine & some harsher soap products can also cause jewelry to tarnish very quickly. At night time, jewelry should also be removed, especially if you tend to heat up through the night and perspire. It's best to keep your jewelry pieces separated from each other and protected. If they're thrown together, they're likely to get scratched, tangled or damaged in some way. If they're left uncovered and unprotected on any surface, they're more likely to be exposed to many substances you'll want your jewelry to avoid.

Generally, you should avoid:

  • Exposing the jewelry to extreme weather conditions, especially heat.
  • Contact with oily or sweaty skin.
  • Contact with dirt (e.g. while gardening)
  • Chemicals of any sort.
  • Alcohol-based products.
  • Perfumes & cosmetic products.
  • Food substances.
If, for any reason, your jewelry does come in contact with a potentially damaging substance, rinse the jewelry in clean water and gently wipe dry with a soft cloth. Mild soaps are generally safe to use on costume jewelry too. Try and keep your jewelry clean and dry at all times. Costume jewelry which is not properly looked after can begin tarnishing almost immediately while other better maintained pieces can last for many years. Keep in mind that costume jewelry only costs a fraction of what fine jewelry costs for a reason.

FEEDBACK

D.I.Y ANKARA BRACELET

Ankara fabric comes in a variety of rich colours including luscious yellows, oranges, reds, greens and several other colours. Made of 100% cotton or cotton poly material, the material is durable and the beautiful array of colours it comes in makes it extremely popular. The material originated from Nigeria and was typically used for making casual outfits. Nowadays, it’s primarily made in Ghana and usage has expanded beyond clothes to include bracelets, earrings, neck pieces, purses etc.  The amazing bit is that with enough skill you can comfortably make your own Ankara jewellery at home.

The D.I.Y instructions in today’s post are dealing with how to make an Ankara bracelet with a bit of a twist, as it will be all blinged out. We all know how popular rivets and studs have become in the recent past and the Ankara studded bracelet is bound to be up there on the list of chic items. It's pretty simple to make the bracelets as the pictures are also quite self explanatory.
  • Cut a strip of fabric on the 'bias' i.e. across a square section like you are cutting a strip off a diagonal. The picture below with red fabric shows the bias direction. The fabric should be just long enough to go round the bangle and wide enough to close in neatly on the inside although you may need to finish off with some ribbon to make it look neat.
  • For ease use iron-on studs for this project and iron them onto the fabric.
  • Spread your glue on the bangle being careful not to use too much of it.
  • Place your already studded fabric on the glued bangle surface and smooth evenly. Finish off with some ribbon or trimming on the inside to conceal rough edges.

DO YOU HAVE THE RIGHT MAKE UP AS YOU ACCESSORIZE?

It’s safe to say that Tote-Alley do lovely jewellery, bags and hair accessories, depending on the look you want to show or have, wearing the right make up will just about get the right look. Personally I love the afro fusion look. So, let’s talk about make up that goes with the accessory below

Face Primer: Wondering what this is? A face primer is one of the best ways to insure your makeup stays on longer. They pamper the skin and create a protective barrier. Primers are excellent for people with combination to oily skin. Just apply after moisturizer and let it sink into the skin for a few minutes, and carry on with your regular foundation routine.  It glides on and provides a smooth base for foundation. It also makes foundation last much longer plus you don’t need as much foundation as it provides a silky smooth base.

Flawless Foundation- Foundation brings life back to your cheeks and realness back to your skin. Get the right skin tone that matches with your skin, apply it over the face primer and what as your face transforms.

Mascara: Many people going for a natural look use brown mascara. It can make your lashes look longer or thicker, without darkening them to much.

Eyeliner: There are several eye liners in the market the most famous is black BUT you can become adventurous by wearing an eyeliner that is the same color with your eye shadow. This can be a purple or blue

Eye Shadow: This is one of my favorites because you can choose from a world of colors but depending on your skin colour plus the accessories you have chosen for the day. Wearing the same color as your eye liner makes you look so adorable.
